When I started using VMW Fusion 3.1 last summer, loading a 64-bit Win7 Home Prem OS, I set up the Mac's wired network adapter card in bridged mode for Win7. This worked very well: I could access the internet through my Apple Extreme wireless router (which kept a reserved IP address in its DHCP settings for the Win7 virtual network card); and the rest of my home network (PCs and MBPro) was visible and accessible from the hosted Win7 OS and vice versa to the extent that my sharing settings allowed. In addition, whenever I shutdown Win7, exited VMW, and then later restarted VMW and WIn7, the network adapter card was still connected to Win7 in the same manner, and the rest of the network was visible.
When the VMW Fusion 3.1.1 update came out a couple months ago, the above reconnection behaviour of the network adapter card stopped happening when I started the Win7 machine. Instead, Win7 would connect to BOTH my home network (identified in Win7 as a private home network, and identified as a workgroup, NOT a Win7 Homegroup), AND a public 'unidentified' network. In this configuration, I could see the home network PCs and MBP, but couldn't access the internet through my home router.
I eventually figured out that if I opened the 'network and sharing centre' in Win7, disabled the network adapter card, then re-enabled it, it came back up and connected ONLY to my home network, allowing me to access the internet again. The bright side of this is that as long as I don't shut down the VMW virtual machine on the Mac (IOW I can shut down and restart Win7 within the virtual machine), this arrangement persists. The dark side is if I shut down the VMW virtual machine on the Mac, this arrangement does not come back up - instead, I'm back to the home network plus the unidentified public network and my internet access is again gone.
I would upgrade in a heartbeat, but I also have legacy programs. I only have one, Quicken 2007, but it's the last version that supported paying bills within the program and last I checked Lion was the highest system I could use.
I don't know why this change occurred when I upgraded to VMW Fusion 3.1.1, or if this is the way it SHOULD have worked from the start. Can anybody shed some light on this scenario? I'd really like to set up the Mac's network adapter card just once for the Win7 virtual machine, and not every time I start VMW. Is this doable? Any idea what this ghost unidentified public network is?
VMW Fusion is a dream come true for me - working on a big old 27' iMac and having a Win machine on tap with a few keystrokes/mouse clicks for those few apps that aren't available in the Mac world (most of my astrophotography equipment control software, Intuit Quicken and QuikTax/TurboTax, my Polar heart rate monitor downloading software, plus a couple others). But this annoyance has taken the shine off the honeymoon, so to speak. Can anyone offer either a solution, or a troubleshooting procedure, that I can try?
Thanks for reading all that, and for any help you can provide.

My motherboard quit on me . . . so am setting up a new computer (PC/Windows 10). When reinstalling my Quicken Deluxe 2015 (CD), it asks me to sign-in with my Intuit ID. I entered my email and password. 'An unkown error occured. Please try to connect later.' To double check, I clicked on 'Forgot your password?' It took me to www.quicken.com. I used the password that I know and logged right in. So, I remembered my password correctly. Went back to my Quicken program and tried it again several times and even restarted my computer. I also gave it time; this is my 3rd day.

- edited January 2018Hello Mary,
In most instances, when receiving a 'No internet connection' or 'Unknown error', the issue can be resolved by updating your Quicken application to the latest update release. When you have a moment, I suggest you download and run the Quicken 2015 Mondo patch from the knowledge article linked below. Once you've run the Mondo patch, relaunch Quicken and try updating your accounts once more. What happens?

(Don't know who can fix it but the word 'unknown' is spelled incorrectly in the error message. ('unkown' should be 'unknown')
